Our competitive season runs from the beginning of November to the end of February. We practice in our own private gym space that is housed within Prairie View Elementary from 3:30-5:30 every week day during our season. Girls are in charge of their own transportation from rogers to our gym, that being said we have tons of drivers and they all easily figure out car pooling every year, if that’s something you are comfortable with.

Unlike club, each conference meet we are allowed to compete 5 varsity athletes and 8 JV athletes. If we have more than 13 girls that are eligible for each event, we always give each one a chance on the competitive line up at least once, if not twice, and will run meets where we have a JV2 when we can! Invitational meets vary on how the competition is run, the most common are 5V/5JV, 8 Varsity, and Varsity only (5). Invitationals are used to assist our varsity athletes in gaining titles such as all section, all conference, and all American.

We do not run a traditional try out before our competitive season but rather use the first few days with an athlete to review their skills and do have a list of minimum required skills to compete, which are as follows:

  • Minimum: Front Handspring and/or Half On

Potentially Needed: A twisting or flipping element “off” the table, ie. Front Handspring - Full Off or a Tsuk.

  • Minimum: Low Bar Kip, High Bar Kip, and Flyaway Dismount

Potentially Needed: Switch Kip and Uprises or Giants.

We will have all our varsity athletes who do not have a clear hip circle working that this off season as well as a release, ie. bail out, toe shoot, a kip cut catch, or a straddle back.

  • Minimum: Cartwheel/Back Walkover/Front Walkover Acro Series and Front/Back Tuck Dismount

Potentially Needed: Flight Element, ie. Round Off, Back Handspring, Front Aerial, Back Tuck. A High Level Jump, ie. Wolf 3/4, Split 3/4, Side Facing Straddle.

  • Minimum: Round off Back Handspring Back Tuck, Front Tuck, Switch Leap, and Toe 1.5 Turn

Potentially Needed: A Twisting Acro Skill, ie. Front/Back Full. High Level Jumps, ie. Wolf 1.5, Split 1.5, Tuck Double, and a High Level Leap Pass, ie. Switch Side Leap connected to a Straddle Full, Switch Leap Half connected to a Wolf Full.

Our meet season next year is looking to be about 12-14ish meets, the schedule is not quite set in stone but is tentatively listed out here.

The girls will register for gymnastics by November 1st through the school and I believe the cost is around $250. We also have a booster club that is highly recommended to join which is an annual fee of $150-250. Additional purchases at the start of the season will be their March-in outfits and warm up leotards. Their competition leotards are provided by the school district and assigned out every year.
